Development of a pork mortality insurance product.
Working closely with specialists in the insurance and risk assessment industry, this project will scope, develop and design an insurance product to underwrite losses associated with animal mortality from any peril, including disease. The intent of the project is to develop and all-risk mortality insurance product for hog producers in Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. This product would address areas of risk that receive no compensation under the Health of Animals Act.
Deliverables include: (1) a fully developed and costed insurance product for pork producers that underwrites losses associated with mortality from all risks, (2) commitment from one of more private sector insurance companies to support an insurance program in the medium to long term, and (3) a report outlining the main attributes of the insurance product, key strengths and weaknesses of different delivery options and an overview of the product development process
