Project Title:

Development of a non-reportable disease surveillance and outbreak detection system using PRRSv as a model

Project Summary:

The project will expand and develop a regional non-reportable disease surveillance system based on the OSHAB PRRSV Sequence Database. Diagnostic investigations to expand the understanding of disease outbreak movement and survey the PRRSV status of regions of Ontario, utilizing an approach that focuses on systems which impart a high disease transmission risk to the industry.   Development of a disease mapping system, which links the PRRSV Sequence database with benchmarking and premise ID data and assessing approaches used in other regions and sectors. A working group with representatives from OMAFRA, and Ontario Public Health and Welfare will be actively involved.
