Assessment and Modification of the PADRAP as a tool to assess on-farm biosecurity in Canada
The Production Animal Disease Risk Assessment Program (PADRAP) is designed to evaluate current on-farm biosecurity protocols related to PRRSV and can be used to direct the development of new biosecurity protocols to avoid risk related to PRRSV. The program is administered through the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) in collaboration with Iowa State University since March 2006 and has been used to assess more than 750 sites in the US and Canada. OSHAB initiated training and development of the breeding herd program in Ontario in 2007 to provide a tool for producers to assess disease transmission risk and allow benchmarking across the North American swine herd with respect to internal and external biosecurity parameters.
This project will assess and customize a survey tool to meet the needs of the Canadian swine herd which allows individual farms or systems to assess their current biosecurity practices and benchmark against production systems across North America. The tool will assess and be able to report and benchmark over time compliance to the Canadian National Biosecurity Standards and development of individual farm plans to improve on-farm biosecurity and reduce disease transmission risks. The project will also consider legal issues such as confidentiality including ownership and access to the data and publication rights.
